Garden Planning & Care Tips
Choose plants that work best for the planting site (sun, shade, type of soil, etc.)and hardiness zone
Organize plants by height to create layers (tall in back, etc.)
Arrange plants in groups by variety and color mixing
Mix plants by shape and foliage texture for visual interest
Arrange by flowering periods for continuous blooming
Spade beds to a depth of 8”-10”. Improve and keep soil loose by adding peat moss, sand, organic material, or composted materials.
Water plants thoroughly following planting. Most perennials need 1 “to 1-1/2” of water/week. Soak ground thoroughly with each watering. Water more frequently in warmer weather.
Apply time-release fertilizer when planted, according to package directions. Remove old flowers to encourage re-bloom, In the fall, remove dead foliage and mulch to protect crowns and roots from colder weather.
